Grace Overcomes The Shadow Self

The Psychoanalyst Carl Jung identified the Shadow Self as the Dark Side of human psychology, which some Therapists claim contains aspects of our personality that we repress.

The Shadow Self can be described as a Cupboard that we keep closed deep within our Psyche.

The problem arises when some Therapists claim that we need to do some Shadow Work and integrate this Dark Side into our Conscious Personality.

This Shadow Work concept conflicts with the Grace of Christ which we can Receive freely by Faith.

The Grace of Christ shines the Light of God on our Shadow Self and immediately the Shadows disappear by Faith, and as such Shadow Work is no longer required.

The Apostle Paul discusses this in his Letter to the Turkish Believers in Galatia.

Galatians 3:9 AMP, “So then, those who are people of Faith are Blessed and made happy and favoured by God, as partners in fellowship, with the Believing and trusting Abraham.”

Notice Paul does NOT say ‘People of Faith before they can become Blessed have to deal with their Dark Shadow Self’.

There are references in Paul’s Letters to the Turkish Believers and also to the Roman Church, that we have struggles with the desires of the Flesh, but this is entirely different to the Shadow Work concept.

Faith opens the door to the Light of Christ to shine in all areas of our personality, and because this happens by Grace and not by our efforts, all we need to do is to make sure that we stay connected to the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Faith in Christ unlocks and allows you to confidently develop your true personality, without any concern about Shadow Work being needed to be done.

The Shadow Work idea suggests that we are gradually evolving our personalities, and some have even proposed that this process could happen over several lifetimes through Reincarnation.

By contrast, the Abrahamic Traditions discuss immediate transformation through Faith.
